Safeguarding Policy

Rwanda Group Trust Safeguarding Policy

The trustees of the Rwanda Group Trust (RGT) charity take their responsibilities very seriously regarding safeguarding for all who come into contact with and benefit from the work of the charity.  As such we have ensured due diligence and all trustees (volunteers) have a basic awareness of the importance of safeguarding within the work of an international charity. (The RGT is registered with The Charity Commission UK). In addition 2 of the trustees have received a greater level of training.

We acknowledge the rights of all, adults and children, to be protected from all forms of exploitation, abuse, violence and disrespect.

We have continuous contact with our specific groups in Rwanda working on behalf of the trustees and we trust them to distribute aid in the most appropriate way given their current circumstances. The RGT promotes good governance through regular reports regarding monies spent and scrutinises any changes or discrepancies from monies sent. These procedures are regularly evaluated to ensure they are fit for purpose. The Charity produces an annual report that is sent to the Charity Commission.

We therefore:

  • Recognise that all are born in the image and likeness of God and, regardless of gender, age, ability and other protected characteristics under the (UK) Equality Act 2010 should be treated as such and protected from mistreatment of any kind.
  • Support any work that protects the human rights of adults and children who work with and benefit from the direct work of the charity.
  • As far as possible, given our UK location, help protect the human rights of all and expect all those leading the groups in Rwanda to have a basic knowledge of safeguarding that is updated regularly.
  • Ensure that everyone who works on behalf of the charity promotes and protects the welfare of those less fortunate/in need of aid.
  • Work primarily to improve the quality of life for individuals and families especially in the fields of health, education, shelter and food in order to safeguard and protect people in need.

Should the RGT Trustees become aware of any safeguarding concerns through their work in Rwanda they will be dealt with in a serious matter using the advice and guidelines of the Charity Commission UK.
